Tim Nangle was born as the youngest of ten children in a hard-working family. Growing up, he observed his dad simultaneously managing multiple businesses, instilling in him a strong work ethic. He served for 27 years as a paramedic in the Portland Fire Department. He furthered his commitment to public service by running for Town Council in Windham, aiming to contribute to the betterment of his community.
During his six-year tenure on the Town Council, Tim supported initiatives focused on creating and enhancing public parks, reducing property taxes for seniors and disabled veterans, and investing in the town's infrastructure.
In his first term as a State Senator, Tim has prioritized the needs of working families and our local communities, including by supporting investments in education, increasing healthcare affordability, and giving our towns the tools they need to protect our environment. In Augusta, Senator Nangle serves as the Chair of the State and Local Government Committee and as a member of the Transportation Committee.
We all reap the rewards of Maine's environment—whether through summer and winter recreation or the thriving tourism, fishing, and logging industries. Our lakes are vital to this in our district, which is why I sponsored a bill to protect their shorelines and ensure they stay clean and full of vibrant life. We must also keep our water and land free from PFAS, so I have and will continue to support Maine’s investments in testing and cleanup.
Whether your own or rent, your housing costs are a significant expense. We can reduce property taxes and rental costs by maintaining municipal revenue sharing for fire, police, and roads; funding our schools; and further improving the property tax programs that benefit Maine residents. Additionally, this term I supported expanded property tax credits for seniors and veterans to help them stay in their homes.
We must strive to ensure every Mainer, including veterans, seniors, and those with disabilities, can afford a safe and warm place to live. In Augusta, I am proud to have supported historic investments in increasing the state’s housing supply, and believe we should explore avenues like low-interest loans to assist first-time homebuyers, which would help us keep more recent graduates in Maine.
We must protect Maine families by focusing on creating jobs that offer the ability for individuals to earn a living wage. In addition, we must make every effort to make continued education and training affordable. We should continue to expand apprenticeship programs in our communities that allow Mainers to earn a wage while learning a trade. I am proud to support these programs to help keep our young adults in Maine.
Access to affordable, quality healthcare is essential for each of us. We must continue to reduce the price of prescription drugs and ensure that medical facilities have enough staff with the proper training. Further, I believe in strengthening access to healthcare for veterans, which is why I supported multi-million dollar investments in medical care for those who have served our country in the military.
All Mainers grasp the importance of a well-rounded education and its profound impact on shaping a child's future. We must limit the financial burden on individual communities while maintaining the standard of a high-quality public education system for everyone regardless of income. Lastly, we must continue to expand funding for Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Maine, ensuring our students are well-prepared for diverse career paths, contributing to a thriving and skilled workforce.
